Things to Do in Mallorca
Most of what people come to Mallorca for happens in one of three places: on the water, up in the range, or at a table. This page runs through each of them, says how long the thing actually takes, and is straight about the two that this site cannot book for you. On the water
A boat along the coves
The thing the island does best, and the only way into several of the coves it is known for. Trips run from a rigid inflatable out of Cala Figuera to a catamaran out of Palma with lunch on board, and the fares start at $66.30 for nearly three hours. Most include snorkelling gear.
Sea caving at the Cova de Coloms
A walk along the shore and then a swim into the cave itself, with a guide and safety gear provided. The minimum age is twelve and the operator asks for moderate fitness, and that is the right expectation to arrive with: it is a forty-five minute walk each way and a twenty-minute swim at each end.
Kayaking and cliff jumping in the north
Run out of Alcúdia with pickup along the north coast. Wetsuit, kayak, helmet, life jacket, snorkelling gear and a safety boat are all provided, the operator recommends it from age five, and there is a stated 110 kg limit on the kayaks.
Paddleboarding and snorkelling
Included rather than sold separately on most of the boats here — eleven of the listings put snorkelling gear inside the fare and several add a SUP. If that is the part you want, the cards say which boats carry it.

In the mountains
Into the mountains by road
The classic day through the Serra de Tramuntana: Valldemossa, Deià, Sóller and back, or the hairpins down to Sa Calobra. Four trips here do it, from a minibus capped at eight to a coach that seats fifty-five. The range itself has no gate and no admission.
The GR221, the dry-stone route
The long-distance path through the range, named for the walls that hold up its terraces — the same walls the UNESCO listing is about. It is walked in stages over several days and needs no booking. Nothing here sells it, and that is the right answer: it is a walk, not a product.
The Sa Calobra road
Stacked hairpins looping back under themselves at the Nus de sa Corbata. Drive it if you enjoy that sort of thing; take the one-day circuit if you would rather look out of the window.

A tapas route through Palma
Three hours, self-guided, at $65.11 a head: a digital route on your phone, five stops in the old town, and five tapas and five drinks already paid for at each. You set the pace.
Cooking it yourself
Three hours in a restored windmill in Palma, cooking Spanish dishes and then eating them, with an open bar included. The minimum age is six and it caps at ten places.
Wine, in the middle of the island
Mallorca's wine country sits inland around Binissalem and Santa Maria del Camí, well away from the coast. One private trip here spends two hours there after a morning in the mountains.
Cycling on Mallorca — and why you will not book it here
Mallorca is one of the best road-cycling islands in Europe. Professional teams winter here, the Sa Calobra climb is on most serious riders' lists, and in spring the Tramuntana roads carry more bicycles than cars. If that is why you are coming, you are coming to the right island.
None of the trips here is a cycling tour. Not one is a bike ride, a bike hire or a guided cycling day. Book cycling through a specialist operator or a hotel that caters for riders — being pointed at a boat instead would only waste your day.
With children
Several of these work with children and the listings say so in their own terms. The kayaking day is recommended from age five. The cooking class sets a minimum age of six. The Cova de Coloms sea caving sets twelve, and means it. Four trips offer infant seats and several allow infants on laps; the boat rental is the one where a family of up to five splits a single fare rather than buying five seats.
When it rains
October is the wettest month here and September is not far behind, so it is worth having an answer. Palma's old town and its covered markets work in the wet. The cooking class is indoors by definition. The sea caves are already wet. What does not work is a boat: operators cancel for weather and refund, which is the system working rather than failing.
A day in Palma
The old town walks end to end in half an hour, and the cathedral quarter sits directly above the seafront. Bellver Castle stands in woods above the city and is circular in plan and unusual in Europe for it. Four marinas used by the trips here are within a few minutes of the centre, so a morning in the city and an afternoon on the water is a genuinely easy day to arrange.
